Owens seeks GOP endorsement as win-win
DELAWARE, OHIO – The Independent campaign for Ohio attorney general continued its coalition building effort today by seeking the endorsement of the Republican Party. Former prosecutor Robert Owens formally requested to speak to Party leadership Friday.
“We certainly intend no disrespect to the Republicans’ process,” said former prosecutor Owens, noting the state Party screening committee had unknown candidates to screen.
“I believe that the attorney general must be independent in order to restore integrity to the office,” said Owens, emphasizing that he is not seeking the Republican nomination for attorney general. “Our campaign is built on a broad base of grassroots support, and the GOP is welcome in that big tent.”
“We firmly believe regaining the public trust is in the best interest of all Ohioans,” said campaign manager Jeremiah Arn. “This is a unique opportunity for the Republicans to do the right thing. By endorsing the principles of open and honest governance, the Republican Party can send a powerful message that state government should be transparent to the public and the press.”
