Owens to announce attorney general candidacy

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The only Independent candidate for Ohio attorney
general will publicly declare his candidacy Tuesday at a Statehouse
press conference. Former Prosecutor Robert Owens submitted appropriate
petitions last week to the Secretary of State, and will be making his
first campaign appearance 3:00 pm June 10 at the Ohio Statehouse.

“I am running to restore integrity and independence to the important
office of attorney general,” said Owens, now a Delaware County
attorney. “Unlike the old parties who are funded by powerful special
interests, my grassroots campaign and term in office will be driven by
the people of Ohio.”

The Owens2008 campaign team quickly created a statewide grassroots
effort of nearly 100 circulators, who collected more than 1300
signatures from 44 of Ohio’s 88 counties to gain ballot access. This
effort was organized and executed in less than one week. A new
attorney general will be elected in the General Election on November
4, with Owens as the only Independent candidate. Republicans and
Democrats have until August 19 to select a candidate.

Owens was educated at Ohio Wesleyan University, Oxford University
(United Kingdom) and Capital University Law School. In his legal
career, he clerked for a Federal District Court Judge, worked for one
of the largest law firms in Ohio, and now has a private law practice
handling criminal and civil matters. Owens is also a long time
community leader and activist at the Federal, State and Local level.
Mr. Owens and his wife Teri have been married for 10 years.

Owens will make a few opening remarks and will then entertain
questions from the press. For more information or to schedule an
interview, please call Owens 2008 Campaign HQ at (614) 839-8544 or
