Owens stands out among candidates at event
POWELL, OHIO - At the first event with all three candidates for Ohio attorney general, former prosecutor Robert Owens was enthusiastically received by a crowd of gun rights supporters. On Sunday, Owens spoke at the “Party in the Park,” an annual event sponsored by Ohioans for Concealed Carry, of which he is a member.
Owens, a strong advocate of Second Amendment rights, is the only candidate in the race who actually holds a concealed carry permit. He said one of his priorities as the chief law enforcement officer in Ohio would be to ensure law enforcement officers understand citizen rights to open and concealed carry. The Ohio attorney general directs law enforcement throughout the state through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.
“Today, this park is the safest place in Ohio,” remarked Owens during the speech he gave to the group, while carrying a holstered gun. Owens also showed his concealed carry permit, and told attendees of the event “you (armed citizens) are the best deterrent to crime.”
Speaking to supporters at the event after the speech, Owens commented “this is a great event sponsored by a wonderful organization. I consider it a true privilege to speak here, as this issue is near and dear to my heart. Protecting citizens’ Second Amendment rights is so critical, because the right to bear arms is what protects all our other civil liberties.”
Bob Butler, field director for Owens’ campaign touted the success of the event. “Robert Owens blew away the competition,” said Butler. “We got a huge response from voters and recruited a lot of volunteers to help us get the word out statewide. Robert went there, met people personally, and told them directly where he stands. I think it was clear who the strongest candidate is on issues important to gun owners.”
Robert definitly stood out- the only candidate that is a member- only candidate that carries.
That said it all- period!
