Education
Robert graduated with honors from Ohio Wesleyan University where he majored in history and minored in journalism. At Ohio Wesleyan, Owens was inducted as a member of the history honor society Phi Alpha Theta and was active in numerous community service projects through Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Robert also studied history and politics at Oxford University (United Kingdom) where he played linebacker for the Oxford University American Football team. Robert obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Capital University Law School.
Legal Experience
Robert’s legal experience includes a clerkship for a Federal judge in the U.S. District Court, Eastern Division. Robert subsequently practiced at a large law firm in Columbus, handling corporate, real estate, employment, and banking litigation. Even in a large firm environment, Robert focused on individual needs and concerns, resulting in repeated honors for superior client service.
In 2003 Robert returned to Delaware County, where he served as prosecutor in Sunbury, Ohio and independently handled a wide range of litigation including civil jury trials, criminal jury trials, domestic trials and probate cases.
Robert has lectured on litigation topics for other lawyers seeking continuing legal education, and his writings have been featured in professional trade publications. Robert is also accredited by the Ohio Division of Real Estate to teach continuing education to real estate agents.
Known for his attention to detail and ability to “think outside the box,” Robert’s passion and skill provide a distinct advantage both inside and outside the courthouse. Robert’s diverse legal experience, combined with his rural roots, has allowed him to provide top legal counsel without sacrificing small town compassion.
Citizen Leader
As a citizen leader, Robert has championed state and federal legislation to preserve our liberties and the Constitution. Initiatives include the repeal of NAFTA, and stopping other bureaucratic measures that threaten national sovereignty such as the proposed North American Union (NAU). Robert served on the City of Delaware’s 2008 Charter Review Commission in which he fought to ensure a balanced budget, maintain fiscal discipline and ensure internal advancement procedures for the police and fire departments. Robert is currently an active leader in Kiwanis, an international service organization.
Personal
